What is Drop Shipping ?

So many explanations online and some refuse to keep it totally simple! No worries though, we've got you covered!
Dropshipping is a style of retail business wherein a store, whether online or offline,
does not physically keep inventory on hand. Instead, when the store sells a product,
it buys the item from a 3rd party supplier, (vendor,)  and has them ship it out directly
to the customer. Three key advantages of operating a successful dropshipping business
are outlined below :
#1 : Dropshipping is an amazing way to offset the cost of starting and operating the business
because inventory does not have to be purchased in advance, stored and maintained on
physical premises.

#2 : Dropshipping enables the store to offer a wider range of products because
there is no longer a need to “save retail space.”  A seller can now list thousands of items on
their websites or in their offline establishments via a physical lookbook, without worrying
about storing those items on hand.

#3 : In a digital world where the retail landscape is ever-evolving, drop-shipping appeals to
the trend of customers ordering merchandise online and receiving the item at their doorstep.
In order to have a successful drop shipping operation, you will need to choose 1 or all
3 strategies described below :
  1. List items on Ebay
  2. List items on your own website and market independently
  3. List items on your own website and market on For Sale Apps
Listing Items on eBay
Listing items on eBay is very easy to do. Once you’ve looked through your inventory, selected
your item of choice and contacted your supplier to find out what the stock price is, you will
now create your own price, list the item on eBay and once you’ve received an order and
payment - you will contact your supplier, pay for the item, and then have it shipped to your
customer.
Listings Items on Your Own Website and Market Independently
You can craft your own website and list the products that you’d like to sell.
From there, you will have to market your website independently through Facebook, or via
Business cards and flyers, and Word Of Mouth ( WOM,) to bring customers to your store’s
website. They will be placing pre-orders for the item on your website, and once you receive
that money (via Paypal or whatever merchant account you choose to have integrated,) you
can then buy the item directly from your supplier, and then have it shipped to your customer.

List items on your own website and market on For Sale Apps
For this method, you are going to do the exact same thing as the previous method
described above, however the difference is that you do not have to independently market
your fashion consignment business offline in order to gain new customers (though this is
an EXCELLENT way to gather income FAST - PEOPLE LOVE WHAT YOU HAVE ACCESS
TO.) Instead, you will simply list your items for sale in the phone applications and
marketplaces (like FB marketplace,) and when you’ve got an offer for your item, simple direct
the individual to your website to complete their purchase. This method works excellent with
Facebook Marketplace, and phone applications that don’t require you to use their payment
processing system. Please bare in mind that phone apps like Mercari and Poshmark will not
release your profits from the sales you make on their platform, until you have shipped the
item, and the customer has marked that item received - Poshmark for example, does it.

Selling Offline
Another method to operating your consignment business is by selling your merchandise
offline to customers in real life. You can do this in many ways - for starters, the following
apps are more so “Yard Sale,” classified applications that allow you to either meet people in person to deliver an item, or direct an individual to your website, so that they may complete
their transaction.
Operating your consignment business offline will require that you have items on hand - you
will need inventory to function. Whether you buy just one item from your suppliers, and flip
that into extended profits to buy more inventory, it is entirely up to you.

Selling applications like OfferUp, LetGo and FB Marketplace can be extremely beneficial to
you when monetizing items that you have on hand personally. After meeting people and
selling your item to them, often times, they will ask if you tend to carry items regularly - if not,
you can inform them of such - extend your business cards and flyers - and turn them into
repeat buyers.
